Volunteer

Get involved, volunteer!

As a volunteer you can offer as little or as much time as you want.  We are always in need of volunteers to help with all aspects of the rescue effort, and much of the work we do does not take a lot of time.

Volunteers help out with a variety of duties which include initial contacts, home visits, dog evaluations, transportation, fostering and attending events.

Our adoption process requires several steps before a dog is ever adopted out, and the same goes for when we accept dogs into our program. Volunteers help out in whichever aspect of the adoption process they can. One aspect we are always in need of is foster homes.

If you are experienced with the breed or other high energy breeds, live in New Jersey and have the time, space (fenced in yards only) and energy to foster a GSP, please consider. It is a selfless experience that saves lives.

While in shelters, GSPs usually suffer from shelter stress which makes them seem unadoptable. Potential families pass right by and don’t see the true personality of this majestic breed. Fostering is important because it enables a stray, neglected or surrendered dog to readjust to a normal family situation.

At times we are forced to board our dogs due to lack of fosters.  We are grateful for those who offer free boarding to rescue animals but this is not always an option.  These places are a business first and take costumers first understandably.  Some places that donate space to rescues can become full, thus we have to pay for boarding which can deplete our funds quickly. Foster homes not only save the rescue significant funds, it also provides a loving and stable environment where a dog can reside before finding their forever home.

There are many ways to help!  From simply going to a local shelter to evaluate a dog to driving a small leg on the “GSP Express,” there’s plenty to do.  How much is up to you.

Contact GSPrescueNJ@hotmail.com for more information and to receive a Volunteer Application Form. A few hours of your time can mean forever to a homeless GSP!
